Timelines help create a context for a monastic community. Significant monastic events are included as well as important events for the region (e.g. major storms, influx of immigrants, etc.), the country (e.g. stock market crashes, wars, inventions, etc.), and the church at large.
Not all dates are known. If the month and day is unknown, it is listed as 01/01/yyyy. Not all dates are obvious. A start date might be when a community buys land or has their first occupants or has an opening liturgy. Months or even years can occur between intention, purchase, occupancy, and full monastic life.
If you see any errors, please contact TAMAP. If you know of more completions, please contact us as well.
The cloister picture is a temporary place holder for timelines. The next 6 timelines are planned. The vision for the timeline includes four aspects: 1. The monastic community, 2. The global Church, 3. Major civic, political and/or cultural events in the United States (e.g. the dustbowl, 1929 stock market crash, etc.), 4. Notable local events.
